Welcome to the Mind Diet: Keeping Your Mind Sharp All Through Life! Dr. Dale Bredesen, author of The End of Alzheimer’s, and one of the leading researchers of dementia describes the causes of Alzheimer’s disease a roof with multiple leaks and the focus of treatments is to patch as many of the leaks as possible, as no medication to date has been shown to cure Alzheimer’s disease. In this course, Dr. Jim Painter will give an overview of nutritional strategies that can slow, halt, and even reverse cognitive decline with a specific focus on Alzheimer’s disease. Learning Objectives: 
At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to: 
  1. Explain the impact of dietary choices and chronic inflammation on the gut-brain axis and cognitive function 
  2. List and describe the mechanism of benefits of herbs, vitamins, minerals and other supplements specific to the Mind Diet that supportive cognitive health and performance 
  3. Evaluate a 24-hour dietary recall for impact on cognitive health by comparing to the key principles of the Standard American Diet and the “Mind Diet”


Jim Painter, PhD, RDN, is Dr. Jim Painter is an Adjunct Professor at University of Texas. His current research interests includes heart disease and mindful eating. Jim consults for Sun-Maid Raisin Growers, Paramount Farms, and the National Dairy Council, and he currently serves on the American Heart Association’s Eat Well Task Force and is the Nutrition Advisor for Sugarwise.  He worked for Marriott Corporation in the 1980s, taught at University of Illinois during the 1990s and at Eastern Illinois University until 2013 and he has over 100 peer-reviewed publications to his credit.
